No other problem garners more than 10% of responses. The problem with most Catholics is that they are uneducated about their religion or they have no sense at all of church history or the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are stuck in a time warp because they have learned their faith in elementary school and have never learned it as an adult. The church must teach, perhaps from the pulpit because most people who do not have a strong inclination toward the church will not attend classes or spend personal time learning. Perhaps we can teach people who “want to learn” and in turn they can teach in informal sessions or in everyday situations.
My personal observation is that more people attend Mass because they think it is a mortal sin not to and therefore will be condemned to hell. Too much negativity and a l950’a mentality is what keeps people ignorant and it seems the church is returning to that mentality. Certainly I feel the church absolutely neglects the education of children and adolescense. This is where we lose them…….in their adolescense because we do not address their very specific needs and fears.
CHRIST DIED SO THAT NO ONE WILL EVER GO TO HELL. THEY MIGHT SPEND SOME TIME LEARNING WHAT THEY DID NOT LEARN ON EARTH BEFORE THEY ENTER INTO THE FULLNESS OF LIFE IN THE NEXT WORLD……WE MUST STOP TEACHING HELL AND PURGATORY.
