Bishops Need to Be Couragious, Listen to the People — Discussing a Roman Catholic, Married Priesthood / National Catholic Reporter

Many Catholics will find hope in the conversation between Brazilian Bishop Erwin Kräutler and Pope Francis in which they discussed the ordination of married men as a serious and positive possibility.

“For the first time in a very long time, the idea of a Roman Catholic married priesthood is a topic that can be discussed and is being discussed inside the Francis administration. Pietro Parolin, recently made a cardinal, was clear about this in media interviews shortly after the pope named him secretary of state last summer. Celibacy ‘is not a church dogma and it can be discussed because it is a church tradition,’ Parolin said. Even as archbishop in Argentina, then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was open to the idea, saying celibacy for priests ‘is a matter of discipline, not of faith. It can change.'”

I also know that the” freedom of thought” is very important to make wise and intelligent decisions, that’s why I hope you allow my thoughts to provoke more thinking on this subject so needed in the RCC.

PS “All… priests, nuns and brothers” know of this culture….be friend one that you feel is open to be liberal in his or her thinking and agree with them. They are so needy for someone to care , they spill the beans. As I said before, it is sad but a true sample of what it’s all about. Not a pretty picture, supported by your generous contributions. They are “great actors”

I’m so sorry to say that the “priesthood of men ” is a whole different breed of person that any of us can ever imagine. After being in the RCC for over 60 yrs and out of the rcc for 14 yrs. I do have a perspective that is not a pretty thing to witness when they are not on ” stage”. There is a whole culture that most catholics , if witnessed , would simply be horrified at . I will be 85 this summer Apnd to dwell on these thoughts of witnessing evil personified, is not what anyone would care to think of in their waning years. I do, to make y ou aware of what a culture you are supporting..
